The state of Arizona is dotted with a wealth of Old West History. In order to experience some of the most amazing and exciting historical destinations, all you need is a car (preferably a 4WD), a little gas money, plenty of drinking water, a packed lunch, a map, and an unstoppable sense of adventure!
There are hundreds of ghost towns scattered all over our great state. Many are situated on public lands. Some have been restored and turned into tourist attractions. Several are no longer recognizable as abandoned settlements, displaying only a small sign to remember the presence of a town. A few, mostly very remote locations, boast nearly every structure for exploration and admiration. One thing is for certain photo opportunities for the history lover abound all over Arizona!
For now, we will talk about only one of the many abandoned towns that are so rich in history. The town of Chloride is a jewel in Western History. A few permanent residents reside in and around the town. A lot of remnants remain, many are still completely intact. A few modern additions dot the town, but this peaceful community is still rich in historical artifacts. The oldest continuously attended church in Arizona still stands in Chloride, and holds regular services.
Chloride is just north of Kingman, east of Hwy 93. Signs mark the dirt road that is easily traversed with 2WD. Please respect the vulnerable state of the privately owned property. Take all the photos you want, but nothing else. The last time I ventured into this amazing town, one of the original saloons was still in operation. The essential to budget travel is to approach onward. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the truth of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our thoughts. Preparation and spending our travel budget wisely is a main concern for most families. Lowering consuming and expenses, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured accomplishment and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding protecting money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is really tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel expenses!. If it still is, be sure to patronize the few locals, and have a shot of tequila to honor the incredible history of the ground you stand on!
