Indianapolis is known for its amateur sports, the Indianapolis 500 race and its Speedway, and its friendly people. But one of the best kept secrets is funky, fabulous, 50's-flavored Fountain Square.
Fountain Square is known as a home for unique restaurants, art galleries and studios, live entertainment, antiques, and small professional offices. It is designated one of Indianas first urban Main Street programs, coupled with the distinction of being named as one of the six Indianapolis Cultural Districts.
Located at the intersection of Virginia Avenue at Shelby and Prospect Streets and 11 blocks south of downtown Indianapolis, Fountain Square was the first commercial historic district in Indiana. Its existing buildings span more than a century of development from 1871 to the present.
Fountain Square played an important part in the Indianapolis theater heritage; the areas commercial district had more operating theaters than could be found in any part of Indianapolis in the first half of the 20th century.
The Fountain Square Theatre Building opened in 1928 as a place for entertainment, shopping and professional offices until its decline began in the late 1960's. After undergoing renovations started in 1993, the building once again houses entertainment and events in the Fountain Square Theatre, duckpin bowling in either of two vintage alleys, two restaurants, seasonal rooftop dining, a cocktail bar, and overnight accommodations.

When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Planning and spending our travel budget carefully is a consideration for most families. Minimizing expending and charges, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain accomplishment and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding saving money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, no matter whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel charge!..". Now, the activity Fountain Square is famous forduckpin bowling at Action Duckpin Bowl & Atomic Bowl Duckpin!
The game was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1900 and it was one of Babe Ruth's favorite games! Ten-pin bowling used to strictly be a winter sport and most alleys closed during the summer except for a few that remained open to play odd bowling games using the smaller balls.
Summer bowlers suggested that it might be interesting to trim the standard pins down to match the size of the small ball. Because it was much harder to get strikes and spares, the rules were changed to allow three bowls on each turn but only counted as a score of ten if all ten pins were knocked down with the third ball. Duckpins became so popular that during the 1920's duckpin bowling spread along the east coast, from New England to Georgia.
Today duckpin houses are still found only in the eastern states with the exception of our two locations here in Fountain Square, the only authentic Duckpin Bowling in the Midwest!
Enjoy a made-from-scratch meal from Naisa Pan-Asian Cafe followed by Radio Radio for retro jazz, rock and rockabilly in a smoke free environment.
End your fabulous 48 hours with a nightcap at Imbibe. Its a casual, friendly, smoke free atmosphere where handcrafted cocktails of the Gatsby era are the focus of the menu.
