Working with different textures, fabrics and yarn helps to develop fine motor skills. You may have already introduced your child to sewing, weaving, stitching or knitting. There are hundreds of craft kits in the market, kids are also exposed to these activities at schools and day cares. But that's just play. How about trying a real weaving loom? Shedding, picking and battening the yarn for real?

The Textile Museum Of Canada collects clothes, fabrics and artwork from all over the world. An authentic Japanese kimono is nothing you have seen or touched before. You would never find in the fancy Bloor St. boutiques anything close in quality to the true Kashmere shawls. The important to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Considering and consuming our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Minimizing expending and costs, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievements and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind saving money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal budget is highly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!. And even the most expensive dresses there would not beat the beauty of a Chinese rich guy's robe with colorful flowers and dragons embroidered on it. This museum is the place where you can - literally - touch the cultures.

Contemporary artists apply all those classic techniques to produce a three-dimensional experience: Stephen Schofield presents his giant patchwork sculptures of men, Lia Cook uses an electronic Jacquard hand loom to weave black and white photographic portraits, David R. Harper embroids portraits on animal skins. Some works are shocking, others are funny, but if you have a good sense of humour and a taste to the unexpected, you won't be bored.

This weekend the Textile Museum is participating in the Doors Open Toronto event. There exposition occupies just two floors, and the visit would not probably take longer than an hour. Toddlers may not be amazed with the fabrics, but the museum also has a collection of miniature knitted toys and other exciting stuff in the drawers.
