Warmer weather awakens Charleston

Put away the coats, the boots, the sweaters and even the cozy scarveswhy? Because its springtime! And, thats when Charleston comes alive!

After the horrible winter weve endured, were all ready to thaw out and come out and Charleston is ready for us with a string of outdoor festivities to last through the spring and on into the fall. A few to get you started:

• The Governors Cup Crew Races begin on April 24th at the University of Charlestons front lawn from 8am to 2pm. What a great way to enjoy the weather!
• My personal favorite is the East End Yard Sale, on May 8th beginning at 8am. Come out and wander around Charlestons Historic District while looking for that one of a kind bargain.
• Then, of course, theres FestivALL! The ten day arts festival has never been more popular. From June 18th through the 27th, Charleston will once again transform into a work of art during FestivALL. A listing of the activities can be found at www.festivallcharleston.com. The key to budget travel is to approach in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Planning and spending our travel budget properly is a consideration for most families. Lowering spending and costs, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievements and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind protecting money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal budget is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel charge!. The fun Wine and All That Jazz Festival and Blues, Brews and BBQ is held during FestivALL as well, both on the University of Charlestons lawn.
• The Appalachian Power Park will play host to the third annual Charlie West Blues Fest on July 17th at 6pm. Tickets are only $15 at the gate and $12 in advance.
• Charlestons popular Ribfest will be held on July 29th through August 1st off of Kanawha Boulevard next to Shoneys.
• Sportsfest 2010 will be August 20th through August 22nd on Magic Island and will include volleyball tournaments, Toyota Governors Cup Pro Jet Ski Racing, Charleston Firefighter Combat Challenge, Live on the Levee, and beach wrestling.
• The Charleston Boulevard Rod Run and Doo Wop Car Show will be held from October 6th through October 10th. Dont miss this car show! Kanawha Boulevard from Capitol Street to Magic Island is packed with all makes and models of cars!
