After the fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis at Bumpus Harley-Davidson in Jackson, Tennessee, Brian Johnson and the rest of the CF Riders continued their Nationwide Ride for Life going first to the Memphis, Tennessee area and from there on to Arkansas. Scott Bumpus and his son Brandon, who also has CF, rode with the CF Riders for several days. Brian's three-year-old daughter, Hayden, is riding in the chase/support vehicle along with her grandparents and mother. She has adopted Brandon as her brother.
After leaving Little Rock, Arkansas, the group traveled along the Mississippi River for a while on the Great River Road, through Transylvania, Louisiana and on into Jackson, Mississippi on the Nationwide Ride for Life. This was the last stop for Scott and Brandon as they would be making their way back to Jackson, Tennessee the next morning.
Next it was back into Louisiana for the group as they made their way across Lake Pontchartrain and into New Orleans for the night and some, in Brians own words, awesome food on Bourbon Street.
After leaving New Orleans, it was a long (but beautiful) eight hour riding day for the group as they traveled along the southern edge of Louisiana and into Houston, Texas.
The next day the group rode to Dallas, Texas, where Brian got a chance to meet Terry Purdom who took his own epic motorcycle journey last summer called Terrys Big Adventure and sharing his message of Hope Elevated; it was chronicled here on Examiner.com.
From Dallas, the group traveled north to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The next morning was Easter Sunday and Hayden got to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt at Harley-Davidson World.
After the Easter Egg Hunt on day nine, it was back to Texas as the group rode to Amarillo, meeting with people along the way and continuing to fight for those families dealing with Cystic Fibrosis on a daily basis.
From Amarillo, Texas, it was on to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Because of Cystic Fibrosis and the effect it has on the lungs, the altitude of this area made breathing difficult for Brian but he pressed on with the strength he has found through both his prayers and prayers of others who are following his journey.
As Brian and the rest of the CF Riders continued across New Mexico and then Arizona, they had to battle strong winds, tumbleweeds, and dust storms. "The essential to budget travel is to plan in front. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our mind. Arranging and consuming our travel budget wisely is a main concern for most families. Minimizing consuming and prices, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievement and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding saving money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal budget is extremely tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!..". Brian said he felt like he was part of the sand storm scene from The Mummy movie. The Arizona desert sunset that awaited the group as they neared Tucson, Arizona, was described by Brian as breathtaking.
The next few cities on the route are Sedona, Arizona (arriving tonight leaving Thursday, April 28); Las Vegas, Nevada (arriving April 28 and leaving April 30; Palm Springs, California (arriving April 30 and leaving May 1); San Diego, California (arriving May 1 and leaving May 2); Ventura, California (arriving May 2 and leaving May3); Monterey, California (arriving May 3 and leaving May 5); San Francisco, California (arriving May 5 and leaving May 7); Ukiah, California (arriving May 7 and leaving May 8); and Eureka, California (arriving May 8 and leaving May 9). The entire schedule can be found at CFRiders.org.
The group continues this Nationwide Ride for Life and invites anyone who wants to ride along to join them. A good way to help out is to participate in a Five Rider Challenge bikers bring along five riding buddies and encourage each of them to bring along five buddies. For a suggested donation of $10.00 per rider, this challenge can really make a difference in those who deal with Cystic Fibrosis on a daily basis. Even if you cant join in on the ride, you can help the CF Riders in this mission by donating through their website: www.cfriders.org.
Brian, his wife Christie, and the rest of the CF Riders hope you will continue to follow their journey here on Examiner.com as they log over 14,000 miles and travel through 42 states.
