What's up in Hawaii's night skies in 2010

Hooray ... Bishop Museum has a website for amateur / backyard astronomers living in Hawaii.

Bishop Museums Jhamandas Watamull Planetarium provides a calendar of astronomical events specifically for Hawaiis location and time zone (which is excellent because it eliminates having to guess where the stars and planets are supposed to be when looking up at night sky from our time zone). In addition to providing sky information, the website also provides information on the July 11, 2010 total solar eclipse that will take place over south Polynesia, specifically Easter Island and certain parts of the Tuamotu and Cook Islands. While this eclipse will not be visible from the Hawaiian Islands, it will be a significant event.

If youd like to attend programs that are focused on the sky, the Bishop Museum Planetarium offers the following programs with admission:

11:30 a.m. The Sky Tonight

1:30 p.m. Explorers of Polynesia

3:30 p.m. Astronomy of Galileo
