Affordable Travel 101: Is there an inexpensive, casual Japanese restaurant in Waikiki

Menchanko-Tei Hawaii is a restaurant specializing in Japanese cuisine located on street level in the Waikiki Trade Center, on the Seaside Avenue side of the building. Its a casual, fairly inexpensive and serves great food.

Menchanko-Tei is known for their menchanko a unique noodle recipe, individually cooked in a Japanese cast-iron pot with broth, assorted vegetables, tofu, pork and shrimp. They also have oden available skewered food items like fishcake and radish simmering in broth until ordered ala carte, as well as a menu of other great options including weekly teishoku specials.

The restaurant uses a special variety of pork called Kuro-Buta and a treasured recipe for their bread crumbs to bread the tonkatsu and deep-fried skewers. They also use specially selected oils that are blended daily to cook so that everything is light and crispy.

Food presentation is very nice, very tasty and, considering this is Waikiki, prices are very reasonable about $9 for a meal. The lunch specials are excellent and also include combina
tion options. Many locals order the chicken karaage (marinated Japanese-style fried chicken), Tonkatsu and the combination pork kakuni (braised pork on rice) with a bowl of hakata ramen (distinctly different and delicious because the broth is made from pork bones) .. see photo. Many of the customers from Japan order the saba (mackerel).

Recently, Menchanko-Tei started to offer take out bentos (while quantities last) which range in price from $4 for the Onigiri Bento (boxed lunch) up to $10 for the Prawn and Pork Tenderloin Katsu Bento.

The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and late night dining (11 am - midnight). The important to budget travel is to prepare in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our minds. Considering and consuming our travel budget wisely is a main concern for most families. Curbing consuming and fees, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed success and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, no matter whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!. They also have a liquor license and serve sake and other drinks. A private room, which can accommodate 4 8 persons, can be reserved.
