Maple syrup makes for a sweet weekend

March brings many things to Western New York, but perhaps none as tasty as real maple syrup. With the thaw of spring comes maple sap and the 16th Annual Maple Weekend. From 10am until 4pm on March 26th and 27th, multiple locations in Western New York will participate in this state wide festival.

New York State is the third largest maple producer in the world and the many producers will open their sugarhouses to showcase their craft. Many will offer samples of their products and admission is free. Details about the weekend and where to find a location near you are all listed at Mapleweekend.com.

There are five participating locations in Erie County. Benzs Sugar Shanty is in East Concord featuring tree tapping demonstrations and more. Gabels Maple Farm in Collins offers maple syrup making and has hiking trails through the sugarbush. Kist Maple Syrup in Boston and Smiths Maple Farm in Hamburg are participating in the weekend as well. Maple Glen Sugar House in Gowanda offers horse drawn wagon rides and free samples of their product. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare onward. What better way to enjoy maple syrup than with a pancake breakfast? New York State Maple Syrup will be featured at many pancake breakfasts in the area. These locations are listed on the Maple Weekend website, some are even all you can eat!
