If you ask people what comes to mind when you think about Manassas, Virginia, most people will talk about the first major battle of the Civil War. The First Battle of Manassas is named for the town it was fought a few miles north of. Very few know that Manassas was built at a junction of two major railroad lines, the Orange and Alexandria Railroad and the Manassas Gap Railroad linking Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. to the Shenandoah Valley and Richmond.

Originally known as Manassas Junction, the line served farmers from nearby farms, and a town was built around it. Spur lines were served more buildings. It was a place where Confederate soldiers mustered to prepare for both Civil War battles, and a few skirmishes happened at the junction itself.

Today, the railroad line still passes through Manassas at its original location although many of the spurs are gone. The station still operates served by Amtrak and commuter trains. You can watch freight trains pass through. The station serves as the visitor center for Manassas. Across the street at the pavilion, you can see a box car and a caboose. "The key to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Considering and expending our travel budget properly is a consideration for most families. Reducing spending and charges, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured success and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind economizing money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal finances is highly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, regardless of whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!..". You can tour some of the original buildings of Old Town Manassas. The Manassas Museum is just one block away where you can see old photos of its early railroad days and read about the history of this town.
