Donate your extra hotel reward points and help a military family

US military families will benefit from a new program, that allows the public to donate hotel reward points so that they can be used by a deserving (and qualified) wounded, injured or ill veteran.

The program is called 'Hotels for Heroes' and it has been implemented by six hotel chains and the nationally known veterans support group 'Fisher House', in cooperation with the Department of Defense.

The partnership allows Fisher House to provide free hotel rooms to wounded, injured, and ill military men and women who are undergoing treatment at a military or VA medical center and to attend authorized events. "The essential to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Planning and expending our travel budget carefully is a concern for most families. Curbing expending and charges, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding protecting money while touring is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel bill!..".

All requests for a free hotel room are verified by an authorized government official.

Two categories are eligible for receiving the rooms:

• Service men and women with military authorization who are receiving medical care and who aren't eligible for government funded reimbursement
• Qualifying service men and women who need a free room for family members or close friends to visit them while they are treated at the medical center

The hotel chains who are part of 'Hotels for Heroes' include:

• AmericInn
• Best Western
• Choice Hotels (Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Rodeway)
• Marriott
• Starwood (Sheraton, Westin, Four Points, Aloft)
• Wyndham

Fisher House is well known in military communities, having built 50 'homes away from home' for relatives of veterans and military personnel who are wounded, injured or ailing and who are undergoing treatment.

The 'Hotels for Heroes' program is the next step to follow Fisher House's program that allows American travelers to donate airline frequent flier miles to military family members through it's Hero Miles program.
