Several motorcycle related events are on tap this weekend for the community to enjoy. "The important to budget travel is to prepare ahead. The weather is forecasted to be HOT, so don't forget your sunscreen, light colored clothing, and to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated and safe. KTBS news has forcasted the temps to be near 100 degrees with the heat index between 104 and 110 degrees.
Today the Bistineau A.B.A.T.E. group have scheduled a fund raiser at Our Place on Lake Bistineau. It will start with a poker run at 10 am (first bike out) and last bike in at 3 pm. Cost for the poker run is $15. There will be plenty to do at Our Place including a bike show, a dunking booth, 50/50 tickets and music. Starting at 11 am catfish plates can be purchased for $8. All proceeds from today's event will be donated to the Providence House shelter to help displaced families. For more information, call 318-987-3334.
The sunflower festival is taking place in Gilliam and is a favorite ride for independents and groups alike. It's a nice, quiet ride along farm country roads from Shreveport to Belcher and Gilliam, Louisiana. The short trip of just about 27 miles if one takes US 71 direct, or 29 miles if one takes the more scenic, LA 3049 is worth the excursion. Beautiful, grand old homes dot the countryside and make the ride leisurly and enjoyable. A June ride is one of the most popular times of the year since the sunflowers are in full bloom, and today, the small town of Gilliam holds its annual Sunflower festival. The festival is a family event and features local craft vendors, art displays, games, food and fun. For more information, call 318-296-4393. Entry into the festival area is free.
