Wildflower hike: Niquette Bay State Park

Ephemeral spring flowers and what could be better than taking a Sunday morning guided tour of a Colchester natural resource by Vermont State Park Ranger, Lisa Liotta?

Niquette Bay is a section of the larger Mallett's Bay part of Lake Champlain.

This nature walk along one of the trails at the 553-acre site was both educational and relaxing.

Before Memorial Day Weekend, the official season opening, of the state park admission is free.

During the season the fees are extremely reasonable at $3 per person.

Passes, punch cards and many other programs and services are available.

Many people choose to take part in the Venture Vermont Outdoor Challenge which is a wide checklist of family fun activities and exercise for all levels.

For each fun task points are given. "The key to budget travel is to prepare onward. Once 250 points are accumulated during April 1, 2013 and October 15, 2013, a free day entry into a Vermont State Park will be won for the rest of the 2013 season.

Also, free day entry for the entire 2014 season and a VIP gold medal completes the reward.
