I happened to go on a Saturday but, the menu is pretty much the same every day at Like Like (lee-kay lee-kay) Drive Inn. This place is family-owned and really started out as a drive inn but it has since been remodeled and today its a casual, local-style, restaurant / coffee shop with booths and a lunch counter.
This is where you should go if you want to try a restaurant where locals go to eat. And, Like Like Drive Inn must be good because its been around since 1953 (over 50 years!).
As you can see by their sign, it really looks like it was designed in the 1950s.
The menu is varied offering a wide selection of hot entrees which include choice of starch, hot vegetable, soup or fruit cup, roll and dessert; salads; sandwiches and local favorites (Fried Rice, Loco Moco, Pigs Feet Soup and Saimin, to name a few). Breakfast is available all day.
We went to have lunch. I had the tossed salad ($4.85) and BBQ Pork Sandwich ($5.70), mom had the Hamburger Steak entree ($11.55) and dad had the Pigs Feet Soup ($10.95). I think the prices are fairly reasonable since its sit down service with silverware and the portions are pretty generous. Prices are a bit higher for dinner.
Like Like Drive Inn is located at 745 Keeaumoku Street (near the Ala Moana Shopping Center), about a 5 10 minute drive from Waikiki.
It can get busy at times with people waiting in line, but, good news, its open 24-hours, is family-friendly and there is no dress code.
Contrary to popular belief, they do accept Visa and MasterCard but no reservations.
Next time youre in Waikiki, venture out in search of some good, local-style comfort food at Like Like Drive Inn.
