Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella opens May 13 for two weekends at BCCC Dundalk.
"Cinderella Story" is a term heard most frequently in regard to underdog college basketball teams making it to the final four. It is also the name of a recent movie about a teenage girl considered an outsider whose dream of love comes true. The term has become part of the vernacular, describing anyone or any entity that achieves unexpected success. But what does Cinderella Story really mean? Dundalk Community Theater provides a spirited explanation with their production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella starting tomorrow, Friday, May 13 thru Sunday, May 22. "The essential to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Organizing and spending our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Curbing expending and costs, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed accomplishment and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind protecting money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal finances is really tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, regardless of whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel charge!..".
Anyone in the civilized world not familiar with the main characters of Cinderella would have to have been living under a rock. Even so, here's a brief preview. Amy Luchey plays the title character, a tragic young woman who tries to put the best face on the cruel whims of her stepmother and stepsisters, all the while dreaming of marrying a prince. Luchey recently performed in the highly acclaimed Side Show with Teatro 101, and in a terrific production of Curtains at BCCC Essex. Judi Milgram, Mely Mullin and Holly Gibbs are the stepmother and stepsisters. They snarkily provide razor-sharp laugh-out-loud moments every time they make an appearance. We meet the Prince played by Tom Burns, whose character has not been terribly lucky in love. Burns recently enjoyed performing in a very successful Sweeney Todd at Vagabond Players, as well as Curtains at BCCC Essex. His parents, the King and Queen played by Wayne Ivusich and Marianne Shaughnessy, are getting nervous about royal succession. They decide, aided by the hysterical but good-hearted Herald Gary Dieter, that the Prince should give a Ball during which he should find a bride.
Tall order.
How will lowly Cinderella possibly ever transform herself into someone worthy of attending a prince's Ball? With the help of her Fairy Godmother, of course. Gail Bareham advises Cinderella with a combination of tenderness, sarcasm and pyrotechnics.
Disclosure: The author is in this production, although you'll have to maintain rapt attention to spot him. That will not be difficult to do, as this John Amato IV-directed show is a feast for the eye, a song for the heart, and (spoiler) a happily-ever-after. And it's child-friendly.
