Hotwire.com releases top 10 hit list of Labor Day getaways and deals (Photos)

According to Hotwire.com, Labor Day crowds are looking for more bang for their buck than ever before, heading off to out of season spots such as Orlando, New Orleans and Atlanta and the usual suspects, New York and Boston. Strangely, Los Angeles seems to be a no show. Probably a good thing since our freeways and attractions are over-crowded enough.

According to a Hotwire.com, "Making their way onto the list for the first time are some of the Southeasts biggest and most affordable cities including Orlando, New Orleans and Atlanta. While the popularity of value destinations seems to be on the rise, urban centers with close ties to the holiday including New York, Boston and Chicago maintain their statuses as favorite holiday hotspots."

New Orleans and Atlanta showed up on this years list in seventh and eighth, respectively. "The essential to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the truth of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Considering and spending our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. These cities are all in their off-seasons and travelers dollars will go further as a result. The ever popular Orlando also joins the list for the first time, and although this is a busy time of year for them, suppliers are still offering compelling deals to fill vacancies left from the decline of peak summer season. These value destinations rise in popularity has knocked Dallas, Toronto and San Diego, which are more expensive, higher-season cities, off the top 10 list completely, and have pushed San Francisco, which has also been expensive this summer, down to number ten.

However, cities with close ties to the holiday continue to remain popular as well. New York remains at the head of the list, with Chicago in second place and Boston dropping from number two last year to number four this year. These three cities have some of the oldest Labor Day celebrations in the country.

Also included on the list are Las Vegas, which moves up in popularity to nab the number three spot (it was number four last year), and Vancouver, which has boasted good deals for most of the year, and has relocated from seventh to fifth place. Rising from tenth to ninth is Washington DC, another good value city for the holiday weekend as much of its corporate and government travel business dissipates during the summer.
