In the last few years, with the economy slowing down, I have gotten reminded many times of the dichotomy between money and time. But there is also a dichotomy between cheap-ness and control. And, at the intersection of both is the dichotomy between money and timing, timing being some sort of control over time. You can save money when you are willing to stand in line, or when you are willing to be flexible with your schedule.

Provided you are willing to relinquish some control over your flight amongst other things, Priceline has made it possible since the 1990s to travel on the cheap. You might not be able to pick the length of time of your stopovers, and the day youll arrive, but you should be able to save some serious money.

The proof is in the pudding. Until today, the auction site has been so successful that it had to kill its negotiator to detach itself from the auction identity and remind shoppers that their non-bid prices are competitive with other sites like Orbitz and Travelocity.

I remember placing my first bid on priceline.com circa early 1999. I was still in college and bidding on flights seemed like the only way I would ever get out of the state. I developed bidding strategies for myself over a few months. They worked so well that in 2002, I even managed to score a round-trip ticket to France for $230. I had fallen in love.

Not everybody has the option of traveling with open dates. We often have to coordinate vacation with work schedule, and most importantly with bosses approvals. When you can bid on your vacation first and then tell your boss/wife/husband when you will be going on vacation afterwards, Priceline is just what the doctor ordered.

Today, you can even bid on hotels and car rentals. "The key to budget travel is to plan ahead. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Preparation and spending our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Lowering spending and charges, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed success and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding economizing money while touring is simple: Even if your personal funds is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, regardless of whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel charge!..". I bet you, you can make the money you saved up for that trip pay for two trips if you use Priceline! Please feel free to post what your best bargains your score there in your comments below, and if you feel generous what your strategy is!

Happy Travels.

I haven't been able to come close to that price since then, but the savings are still substantial.
