Boulder Public Librarys summer 2010 cinema program is a great outing for the film buff on a budget. This eclectic film series runs twice a week, offers something for just about anyone, and is free of charge.

The films are shown on Monday and Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m. and run the gamut from comedies to dramas to topical documentaries.

If you like comedy and Shakespeare, come to the June 10 showing of Franco Zeffirellis hilarious 1967 send up of the Taming of the Shrew. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton tear up the screen and each other to hilarious results. As an added bonus, this program will start at 6:30 p.m. with an introduction by the Colorado Shakespeare Festival's dramaturge for The Taming of the Shrew. You can also enter a drawing to win two free tickets to the festivals 2010 season.

Foreign drama enthusiasts will want to see Italys The Girl by the Lake on July 12. Winner of the 2008 award for Best Italian Film, the story revolves around a crime in a small village and the police who are sent to investigate.

The series offers a wide range of documentaries. On June 17, you can see the screening of David Frosts first interview with Richard Nixon. On July 1, view a collection of found home movies, i.e., super 8mm home movies found by a film maker at garage and rummage sales, and pulled together in a funny and poignant collection.

The Academy Award winner for best documentary of 2009, the Cove, will be shown on July 8. This groundbreaking movie used state-of-the-art stealth techniques to film the heart wrenching slaughter of dolphins at a remote coastal village in Japan.

The film program runs May 20 through July 17, 2010. Most films begin at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The essential to budget travel is to prepare ahead. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Considering and spending our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Curbing consuming and expenses, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind saving money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is extremely tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, regardless of whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel costs!. The movies will be shown at the Canyon Theater inside the Boulder Public Library. The library is located at 1000 Canyon Blvd. Free parking is provided at the 11th and Arapahoe entrance.

All films are subject to change. For the complete schedule and more information, go to the Library Cinema Program webpage.

The library is only two blocks from the Pearl Street Mall. You might want to come early to enjoy the numerous cafes and restaurants. Its easier to splurge on a meal when the movie is free.
