The first Harley Owner's Group (HOG) State Rally of the year was held this past weekend in Lafayette. Headquartered at the Cajundome, over 3,000 motorcycles came together from across the United States to share in the fun and enjoy the Cajun hospitality. There were guided bike rides to PreJean's, famous for their Cajun cuisine, and the Tabasco Plant and the Jungle Gardens of Avery Island, bike games, field events, a bike show, a parade of flags, concerts and parties. The highlight of the event was a performance by Bachman, Turner on Saturday night at the Cajundome. "These rallies are like family reunions", said regional representative, Valerie Ledterman. She continued "this is the first rally of the riding season, so everybody wants to get their bike out of the garage after a long winter. They all want to get together. People like to get together and ride, it's the bond we all have." Valerie has been riding for 25 years and says she is "living the dream".
On Saturday morning, dealership owners and HOG Directors came together for an annual meeting where the selection, via a voting process, determined the lcoation of next year's event. The outcome: riders will be converging on the city of Houma in 2013 for the Louisiana State HOG rally. And, they are already marking their calendars and making preparations for the event. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our minds.
